Protect Ohio’s Essential Public Services

Right now a proposed constitutional amendment is being circulated to eliminate property taxes across Ohio, without offering any replacement funding.

If it reaches the 2026 ballot and passes, it will take effect in 2027, cutting a primary source of support for schools, public safety, and essential local services.

What’s at Stake

Property taxes currently provide the backbone of funding for many local services, including:

  • Public school districts (approximately 95% of local operating revenue)

  • Police, fire, and emergency medical services

  • Courts, jails, and prosecutors

  • Child protective services and food assistance programs

  • Services for individuals with developmental disabilities

  • Senior services, including meal delivery and transportation

  • Mental health and addiction treatment

  • Roads, bridges, and infrastructure maintenance

  • Public libraries, parks, and public health services
