Ohio is home to nearly 700,000 veterans, ranking sixth nationally and representing one in every 15 Ohio adults. Every year, Ohio’s property taxes provide more than $90 million in direct assistance to Ohio veterans. This funding also unlocks additional federal funding through VA claims. Without property tax, County Veterans Service Commissions (VSCs) would cease to exist. VSCs are often the only trusted point of contact between a veteran in crisis and the help they need. If Ohio’s property taxes are abolished, services at risk include:

More than 11,000 Ohio veterans would also lose a property tax benefit — the enhanced homestead exemption — which exempts a portion of their home's value from taxation entirely.
